SUEZ, Egypt: The Japanese Embassy in Egypt called the Red Sea Port Authority head, Mohamed Abdel Qader Gab Allah, yesterday evening to present the Japanese government's formal apology for a radioactive shipment that arrived Ain Sokhna Port in Egypt. The embassy asked to be informed of the Japanese companies that exported the radiant containers three months ago. The Japanese government assured that relations between Egypt and Japan will be always strong. It also confirmed that large investigations will be carried out with the companies responsible for the shipments. Gab Allah has sent all details of the Japanese companies that exported the shipment to Egypt to the Japanese Embassy. The incident began when Ain Sokhna Port in Suez governorate received seven radioactive shipping containers three months ago. Egypt's Red Sea Port Authority then issued a decision on July 21 preventing Red Sea ports from unloading shipments unless they have certifications showing they are free of radiation. The responsible navigation agency must admit that the shipments are free of nuclear radiation before the shipment arrives in Egypt's territorial water. If any radiation cases appear, legal procedures will be carried out in order to insure the port and workers' safety. The shipment will be sent back to its source at the expense of the navigation agency.
