New video evidence of the infamous Battle of the Camel will be handed over to military forces and investigating committees, according to General Director of the Egyptian National Museum Tarek al-Awady. The museum's cameras captured the incident from Tahrir Square this February, said al-Awady. Meanwhile, the museum had 3,507 visitors last Tuesday, said al-Awady at a seminar held yesterday at the El-Sawy Culture Wheel in Zamalek. “This shows that tourism is back to its normal rate,” he said. Al-Awady also mentioned the damage the museum suffered on January 28 and spoke about the process of recording the crimes and reporting the information about stolen artifacts to the police. “We published a list of the stolen artifacts and alerted all concerned parties through Interpol and UNESCO, both of whom we hope will help us recover the items,” said al-Awady. The museum has recovered 25 of the 54 stolen artifacts, said al-Awady, adding that it took nearly 60 days to repair the damage the museum suffered during the January 25 Revolution. “The insurance and protection of the museum is now enhanced and the museum will document all future incidents to ensure its inventory and artifacts remain intact,” he said. Al-Awady thanked the youth who protected the museum during the January 25 Revolution.
