CAIRO: A lawyer for former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said he will ask the judge during Mubarak's next trial hearing to refuse any new civil requests regarding the case. Yossri abdel-Razek, one of Mubarak's lawyers, said he will offer a portfolio of documents to Judge Ahmed Refaat asking him to refuse any new civil claims until there is a final determination of which of those killed during Egypt's January 25 Revolution are “real” martyrs and which were thugs who died during attacks against police stations. The request submitted by Mubarak's defense attorney aims to prevent new defense teams of the families of martyrs and those injured during the 18-day uprising that toppled Mubarak and his regime from power. In related news, the new defense teams held a meeting on Saturday to discuss how to deal with the decision of the Cairo Court of Appeal to refuse to provide them with licenses to attend the trial despite their protests outside the Ministry of Justice. Mohamed Abdel Wahab, a member of the defense team, said it is not a surprise that Mubarak's lawyers filed a case to prevent the new defense team from attending the trial. He said the defense team includes high-profile lawyers who can achieve the interests of those families.
