More than 100 citizens gathered outside the gate of Al-Rashdan Mosque in Nasr City today after learning that the military police had sealed the building so that head of Egypt's ruling military council, Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, could pray in peace. The military police eventually opened the doors to the mosque to allow citizens to pray, and later apologized for sealing the building. Citizens were then allowed to pray in the same hall where Tantawi and other members of the military forces were praying. Egypti's Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa's Friday sermon was a short 35 minutes and included celebratory remarks about Ramadan 10. He also asked Egyptians to be loyal and continue to ask for rights. Gomaa mentioned that the Egyptian army is working for Egypt's stability and protection. “Martyrs precede us to Heaven," Gomaa said. Members of the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF), as well as Tantawi, prayed today in Al-Rashdan Mosque today. They were also celebrating Ramadan 10. Tantawi shook hands with those around him after finishing his prayers. The Grand Mufti of Al-Azhar Ahmed al-Tayyeb and Ali Gomaa also attended the prayer.
