The unemployment rate among Egyptian youth between 18-20 years of age increased to 20.4 percent in 2010, reported Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The unemployment rate for females and males was 46.4 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively. The unemployment rate among males holding university degrees or higher reached 26.8 percent. For non-graduates, the unemployment rate was 19.3 percent. For female Egyptians holding university degrees or higher qualifications, the unemployment rate was 56.1 percent. For female non-graduates, the rate was 45.5 percent. Youths between 18- and 29-years-old actively participated in the workforce in 2010; 75.6 percent of this population were male workers, while 25 percent were females. There are now 29 million youths aged between 18 and 29 years, according to a CAPM statement issued on the International Day for Youth. This population – 50.5 percent males and 49.5 percent females – comprises 24.2 percent of Egypt's population. The rate of similarly aged youth who are computer-literate was 26.4 percent. The CAPM report divided this group as such: • 42.6 percent use a computer for education • 58 percent use a computer for entertainment • 8.6 percent use a computer for work The January 25 Revolution potentially affected the amount of internet use amongst youth, as this rate climbed to 34.1 percent. There were 2.4 million Egyptians registered in public universities and institutes during the 2009 – 2010 school year; males and females comprise s 53.3 percent and 46.7 percent, respectively. There were 105,650 students enrolled in technical institutes, and the student body was comprised of 50.8 percent males and 49.02 percent females. Roughly 67 percent of males in the same age range were married in 2010, while 87.4 percent of similarly aged females were married. On the opposite end, 27.2 percent of males were divorced and 49.6 percent of females were divorced. The General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) issued a statement in 1998 establishing August 12 as the International Day for Youth.
