CAIRO: Egypt unemployment rates reached 20.4 percent among youth ages 18- to 29-years-old, according to a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The numbers are higher in young women, with 46.4 percent and 11.5 percent among young men. Youth participation in the Egyptian labor force is at around 51.9 percent divided into 75.6 percent for men and 27 percent for women. The percentage of young people unemployed with higher degrees was 26.8 percent among males and 55.1 percent among females. For diploma holders, the percentage decreases to 19.3 percent among men and stays level with 56.1 percent for women. The reports sates 2.4 million students were enrolled in universities during the school year 2009/2010, 53.3 percent males and 46.7 percent females. The report also mentioned that the percentage of young Internet users in the country has risen to 34.1 percent with 42 percent using it for educational purposes and 58 percent for entertainment. BM
