SUEZ, Egypt: The floating dock of the Suez Shipyard Company was destroyed early Monday. A number of specialists, officials of the company and officials of the Suez Canal Authority headed to the headquarters of the company to find out the reasons behind the incident. An official from the Suez Shipyard Company said that all the ships were not affected by the incident including the ships that were being prepared to enter the company for maintenance. According to the reports of the Central Auditing Agency and other regulating agencies, the company witnessed a number of financial and administrative violations which led to the loss of 17 million EGP. The workers of the company had also organized demonstrations in February where they demanded an increase in their salaries and activating law No 321 of 1971. The law ensures equality between employees and the workers of the company. Other demands included implementing administrative reforms that will grant them their rights. It was this that prompted officials to increase the salaries of workers in seven companies collaborating with the Suez Canal Authority. The decision, however, has not been activated yet.
