CAIRO: The Karma Ibn Hani Cultural Centre at Ahmed Shawky Museum will be hosting the launching ceremony of the comic book anthology “Autostrade” today. The comic book is brought together 20 artists and writers worked together to produce 12 comics in English and Arabic. “Autostrad” was published by Division Publications and includes the well-known Egyptian artist, Magdy el-Shafee, who published the first Egyptian graphic novel "Metro" two years ago but confiscated per court ruling for criticizing the political situation in Egypt. Other artists and writers include Marwan Imam, Gehad el-Sheikh, Mohamed Mazloum , Sarah Abdel Azim, Adham Khorazaty, Salma Suleiman, Hatem Mamdouh, Amina Tolba, Nermin Shaltout, Ahmed Shaltout and Tarek Abd el-Awi. Performances will include Hany Mustafa and the City band. There will also be a book signing by the contributors. “Autostrade” is part of a growing movement in comic books in Egypt, which has expanding as of late with releases of similar publications, such as “TokTok" and 'El-Thawrageya." Ahmed Shawky Museum is located on the Nile Corniche, Giza part of Cairo. The event begins at 6:30 P.M. Gehad el-Sheikh is also a member of Youm7 English Edition's team.
