FAYOUM, Egypt: A church pastor in Fayoum expressed his gratitude for Muslims in the governorate after they saved his church from a large fire that started next door in a timber store. When Gen. Salah al-Azizy, the security chief of the governorate, was informed that a fire started in a timber store and a furniture warehouse, he immediately sent the civil defense forces to put out the fire. After it was discovered that a church was next to the fire, the Muslims in the governorate rushed to help fight the blaze. With the help of the civil defense forces, they managed to put out the fire before it reached the church. The losses were estimated to be 100,000 EGP (U.S. $16,800), and the preliminary inspection revealed the cause of the fire to be a short circuit.
