Haartez Israeli Kenesset representative escaped from detention miraculously A member of the Israeli Kenesset, Amir Peretz, managed to avoid an arrest warrant issued by the British authorities in accusations of committing war crimes during the second Israeli war against Lebanon in 2006, when Peretz was the Israeli Defense Minister. Haartez said the Israeli Justice Ministry knew the possibility of issuing such warrant so it advised him not to travel Britain. Haartez clarified that the Kenesset member refused to cancel his trip to London, expressing his readiness to be imprisoned but not to abandon his visit to London. Peretz delivered a lecture at the University of London, participated in the Israeli works forum and met with representatives of the Jewish community in Britain. The Israeli authorities managed to deceive British activists who adopt situations against Israel through sending a false email to London University to tell its officials that Peretz will not attend for personal reasons. The Israeli trick pushed the activists to suspend their measures to issue the arrest warrant against Peretz.
