CAIRO: Demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square have refused to transport those injured during clashes in the square to hospitals. They are worried the injured might be arrested. There are three ambulances inside the square to treat the injured. According to eyewitnesses, some demonstrators formed a civil hospital to treat 200 injured people. Of those, 16 are severely injured. Many civilians have come to the square to support the demonstrators. The clashes began when demonstrators refused to let street vendors come into the area of their sit-in. When the vendors insisted, the two groups began throwing stones at each other. According to eyewitness reports, some policemen and thugs were lurking in the area. Witnesses said one of the policemen was beaten by demonstrators during the ‘Friday of Retribution' on July 1. Witnesses also said the thugs had around 20 small gas tubes and set fire to the demonstrators' tents. Witnesses also said 12 thugs have been arrested and referred to the Ministry of Interior.
