ALEXANDRIA: Deputy Prime Minister Yehia al-Gamal denied claims that the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) is the reason for his resignation, which he submitted on Wednesday. He attributed his resignation to his age and his desire to return to academic work in the university. Al-Gamal clarified in press declarations, saying, "I don't have problems with the MB, so I'll visit them at their headquarters on Saturday. It isn't true that they are the reason for my resignation." Al-Gamal described the current political controversy as normal, especially in a transitional stage. He stressed that parliamentary elections should be held first according to the Constitutional Proclamation, issued by the military. He confirmed that the council is working towards achieving the Egyptian people's interests. Speaking on the trials of former regime figures, al-Gamal confirmed that the courts focus is on prosecuting the figures of the former regime. He said it is illogical to think they could finish the trials in six hours because they would not be fair. Al-Gamal praised all the presidential candidates, saying any of them could take the position.
