Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass announced that the first solar boat will be transferred to the Egyptian museum, while the second will be transferred to a museum that will be built specially for it near the pyramids and Fayoum road . After his tour of the King Khufu cemetery on the solar boat yesterday, Hawass said he had discovered a piece of stone with King Khufu's name which proves the vessel is a solar boat, not a funeral boat. Hawass said renovations of the second solar boat will take 5 years to complete, in cooperation with the Japanese Waseda University. Hawass also said the solar boat is older than 4500 years. Hawass said a geographic society came in 1985 and took pictures that proved that the first boat is a funeral boat. But, after he started his own studies, Hawass discovered 18 pieces of stones with king Khufu's name, proving it is a solar boat. Hawass added that yesterday he started lifting the first rock, which weighs more than 16 tons. He also said that they put a wood covering manufactured in Japan on the boats to control the temperature and humidity.
