The Ministry of Social Solidarity accepted the registration of The General Coptic Organization in Egypt, coordinated by Dr. Sherif Dos El-Quyadi. The General Coptic organization includes all Coptic organizations that work for human rights and Coptic affairs. “The organization is formed after long meetings held for 5 years between Copts inside and outside Egypt,” said the spokesman of the organization, Dr. Dos. He added the organization aims to unify all Coptic efforts in order to defend Coptic rights. The Coptic request a law to govern all houses of worship, a law to criminalize discrimination and a personal status for non-Muslims law. “The new climate after the January 25 Revolution and the fall of the former security system helped establish this organization,” Dos said. “Many Coptic organizations in Europe, America and Australia, will be joining in alliance." Dos said they won't stop working after their achievement are met but will continue to develop education and culture, re-establish Coptic schools and hospitals, and insure full citizenship for all Egyptians without any prejudice regarding religion, sex or race. “The organization is working to transfer internal Coptic issues into the open and discuss internal issues through national dialogue in order to restore the role of secular Copts into Egyptian political life," he said. Dos denied turning the organization into a political party. He said the organization is a civil organization.
