Shipping sources said today the U.S. nuclear aircraft carrier George Washington, accompanied by four U.S. warships, crossed the Suez Canal The sources said the aircraft carrier has a carrying capacity of 97 thousand tons, is nuclear-powered, carries 75 aircraft, and has a crew consisting of more than 6000 individuals. It crossed the channel alongside an Italian warship. The sources added that the carrier will likely go to areas with high rates of piracy, like the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa, as well as Asian coasts. The source said three British warships were heading to the Red Sea, and a U.S. warship carrying two helicopters was en route to the Mediterranean.
