JERUSALEM: Israel's economic circle is in a state of panic after the arrest of fugitive Egyptian businessman Hussein Salem in Spain, according to Israeli economic newspaper Calcalist. Salem is the main partner of East Mediterranean Gas Company, which exported Egyptian gas illegally to Tel Aviv under the Mubarak regime. The newspaper reported Salem should be not legally extradited. The paper added, however, the Egyptian media confirmation that Salem will be extradited. Paper analyst Your Guttman said although the Spanish government did not confirm Salem's detention, the government did not deny it either. However, Western media affirmed the detention under a warrant arrest issued by Interpol. The newspaper added that Salem has Spanish nationality. Newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Roy Nheimas said Hussein Salem, “gas billionaire” and close friend of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, fell after Egyptian authorities' long search. The newspaper quoted Youm7 about Salem's detention and the smuggling of Mubarak's money after Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Arabic here
