Egyptian television channels will receive this year's Ramadan series for free, said the head of Egypt's National Media Council, Maj. Gen. Tarek el-Mahdy. “The production companies will only get 50 percent of the advertising revenues of the series,” el-Mahdy added. For this Ramadan, 24 series have been presented to the Egyptian television authority. A committee consisting of drama experts and critics will choose some of these series to be presented during Ramadan. The rest of the series will be presented along the year. The series buying policy caused great losses last year, said el-Mahdy. Losses reached to 100 million EGP (U.S. $17 million). Ramadan is the Muslim holy month, in which Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. The Ramadan television series are presented specially during the month as part of the evening entertainment.
