8,000 railway workshop workers demonstrated in Abbasiya, Cairo; in Abu Radi, Beni Suef; and in Abu Zaabal, Qaliubiya. They asked for the application of the new form of raises. This raise was prepared by a committee of Engineer Atef Abd al-Hamid and Minister of Transport. The committee is lead by Deputy Chief of Staff for the goods sector Engineer, Hany Hegab. The workers asked to apply this form in one phase not three phases as the officials decided. The workers asked to start this phase in July. “The new raise form may reach 608 million EGP (U.S. $102.3 million). The increase is estimated by 388 million EGP (U.S. $62.3 million) more than the current workers wages,” said an official source. “The raise can not be applied through one phase because of current conditions happening in Egypt. The raise will be applied in three phases through the financial provision provided by Ministry of Finance.
