Iran is waiting for the formation of Egypt's political future in order to turn a new page of relations between the two countries, said a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy committee of the Iranian Parliament, Fatma al-Haian. Al-Haian said the parliament agreed to resume relations with Egypt. The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted her saying there are common interests between the two countries, and that the political change that Egypt witnessed recently was what paved the way for improving relations with Cairo. Al-Haian said that Egypt is currently facing increasing pressure. "Iran understands the conditions Egypt is experiencing, and that is why we are waiting," she added. Egyptian Foreign Minister, Dr. Nabil al-Arabi, said the continuation of Egyptian and Iranian relations will be discussed by the next Egyptian Parliament. Iranian and Egyptian relations have witnessed a slight improvement after the January 25 Revolution. A public delegation of Egyptian elites recently traveled to Iran to bridge the gap of differences between the two countries.
