Electrical station engineers across Egypt have threatened to hold an open sit-in on Tuesday if their demands are not met. They are calling for the chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company to be dismisses and for cumulative incentives to be applied, which Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis promised at a meeting in April. Engineers will reduce the electricity loads on Tuesday for an hour if the Ministry does not respond to their demands. However, the Electrical Engineers Coalition (EEC) said they will not stop working in spite of the sit-in. In related news, the EEC has informed Egypt's ruling military council about the proposed sit-in and about their demands, which they consider legal and legitimate. Experts expect the loss of reducing electricity loads for one hour could reach one billion Egyptian pounds (U.S. $169 million). The announcement of the sit-in came before the law criminalizing sit-ins, which the government is considering applying. The law aims to prevent strikes and sit-ins from paralyzing the nation's economy and production.
