CAIRO: The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) called on all members to enhance their efforts to maintain the environment in the Islamic world. As part of a statement announced on World Environment Day on Monday, the organization focused on creating national and strategic scientific policies to protect the environment and keep it as clean as possible for coming generations. The statement called on the Islamic world to exert great efforts in joining work to carry out the decision made by Islamic conference of environment ministers. ISESCO said its inspirations come from Islamic principals and values to protect the environment, particularly in dealing with the global warming issue. The organization called also for renewing commitments towards guarantees of an "Islamic declaration on sustainable development." The organization asked to enhance domestic programs for combating desertification.
