The opening of the third line of Cairo's subway system has been delayed. It was originally scheduled to open in October 2011. The opening has been delayed because work on the line has been stopped several times, most recently after Egypt's January 25 Revolution. Also, only five of the seven trains which will operate on the line have arrived. Engineer Atta el-Sherbiny said that the first phase of third line would be completed in October 2011. The phase is 4.3 km long. It extends from Attaba to Abbasyiah and has five stops: Abbasiyah, Abdo Basha, el Gaish, Bab El She'aryia, and Attaba. Sherbiny expects to open the phase for public use at the end of December 2011, which will give time to test the railway and the trains. He added that 80 percent of construction of the first stage is completed. There will be seven air-conditioned trains and every train has eight carriages. Each trains costs 633 million EGP (U.S. $0000). A Japanese company has supplied the National Authority for Tunnels with these trains.
