Diplomatic sources in the Netherlands told Youm7 that Gamal Mubarak, son of deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, applied for political asylum in Holland. He did so before the Public Prosecutor's decision to prevent Mubarak and his family from travelling abroad. The sources showed that Gamal asked an Egyptian lawyer living in Europe to deal with the procedures. He prepared a file with more than 200 documents proving that he and his family are threatened in Egypt in order to acquire the asylum. Gamal reportedly requested the asylum individually because his father did not agree with the idea, considering it an insulting end to his history. Gamal Mubarak expects the worst-case scenario to happen if he stays in Egypt. Arabic here The sources said Gamal chose Holland for many reasons including the security it provides to refugees as well as having friends there along with businessmen and former officials who had escaped Egypt. The authorities of the Netherlands refused Gamal's request without clarifying the reasons for doing so. Sources showed that Gamal had expected Holland's authorities to approve his request, so he asked another lawyer to resubmit his papers. The second lawyer, however, didn't do so, saying the decision was final and his papers woukld not be reexamined.
