Egyptian authorities managed to foil an attempt to move 80,000 liters of diesel fuel on the black market Wednesday night. The investigative unit of the public supply administration, in cooperation with inspectors in the Ministry of Solidarity and Social Justice, managed to foil the attempt to smuggle large quantities of diesel fuel from petrol stations to the black market, where diesel is being sold at twice the normal market value. The foiled attempt is significant as Egypt is currently suffering a shortage of diesel fuel. A large quantity of diesel fuel was confiscated from petrol stations whose owners refused to sell the fuel to customers in order to up the price, an official source told Youm 7. Over 80,000 liters were secured before they entered the black market. The incident is being investigated, the source said.
