CAIRO: Deputy Manager of Nutrition in Cairo, Galal Omran, demanded packaging rice to public sector companies. He said the main reason the price of rice is increasing is because many companies smuggled the rice abroad during the regime of deposed president Hosni Mubarak. Omran said the Nutrition Section demanded the Minister of Social Integration, Dr. Goda Abdel Khalek, package rice in public sector companies to ensure the existence of the commodity in the Egyptian market and to prevent the smuggling of rice. Omran criticized the private sector, which should bear the responsibility of the rice crisis. There has been an absence of supervision from the Supply Commodity Authority and the General Organization for Export and Import Control. Omran said it is necessary to develop organization of the public sector companies that will remain committed to the public's interest and local markets.
