Ahli and Egypt star Mohamed Abou-Treika explained why he preferred to pull out of Sunday's Super Cup game as he feels it is unsafe to hold matches amid the current state of unrest among fans. Ahli's Super Cup game against ENPPI has been preceded by a series of threats from Ultras Ahlawy fan-group, who vowed not to allow the resumption of domestic football in the meantime. Backing the ultras - who are angry with the slow progress of the Port-Said disaster case - Egypt's most prominent footballer refused to take part in the game. Escalation “I apologized to coach Hossam Al-Badri and my teammates because I felt unready to play amid the fiery atmosphere among fans," Abou-Treika told Ahli's website. “I feared another massacre (like in Port-Said) after the recent escalation by the fans and the FA headquarters incident. “For the safety of people, I believe this game shouldn't have been held. “I was thinking about the general benefit of people, especially that there has been nothing new in terms of securing stadiums and ensuring safety." Meanwhile, Abou-Treika has been training alone as Ahli prepare to meet the cup champions at the Army Stadium on Sunday.
