Apart from the fall of the Dark Continent's champions, there are almost no surprises so far in the African World Cup qualifiers as most big guns coasted to victories in the group stage opening. After Egypt had secured an easy win over Mozambique and Ghana had demolished Lesotho 7-0 on Friday, the rest of the group games take place over the weekend. African champions Zambia succumbed to a surprise defeat in Sudan, losing 2-0 to the Falcons of Jediane with goals from Muhannad Al-Taher and Seif Masawi. In Abidjan, Sabri Lamouchi was off to a winning debut with Ivory Coast as the Elephants saw off Tanzania 2-0, thanks to goals from Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba. In the same Group C, Morocco were held to a 1-1 draw in Gambia. Tunisia survived an early scare to come back from behind and beat Equatorial Guinea 3-1, with Issam Jemaa, Hamdi Harbaoui and Chadi Hammami on target. In Group I, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon worked hard to claim a 1-0 victory over DR Congo, courtesy of an Eric Choupo-Moting goal. Central African Republic, who face Egypt in the CAN 2013 qualifiers this month, recorded a historic 2-0 win over Botswana in Group A. Seven games take place on Sunday, including the Group G clash between Zimbabwe and Guinea.
