Ahli captain Hossam Ghaly believes that the three Cairo clubs playing in continental competitions signify the ‘soul of Egyptian football' in the meantime. With the suspension of all domestic competitions following the Port-Said disaster, Cairo trio Ahli, Zamalek and ENPPI have become the only active clubs in the country. City rivals Ahli and Zamalek are still competing in the CAF Champions League, whereas ENPPI have made it to the Confederation Cup last 16. “I think that Ahli, Zamalek and ENPPI represent the soul of the body of Egyptian football after all domestic activities had been put on hold,” Egypt midfielder Ghaly told FilGoal.com. “The three clubs should get the adequate support in order to keep on playing in Africa as long as possible. “I think this would benefit the national team as well and help us in our bid to reach the World Cup.” Ahli will visit Stade Malien in the Champions League last 16 this month, while Zamalek play against Maghreb Fes. Egypt cup holders ENPPI meet Olympique Bamako of Mali.
