MCDR kickstarted their new league season with a thumping 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Bani Suef Telephones, as there was no shortage of goals elsewhere. Tarek Yehia's team were inspired by a first-half brace from Ivorian striker Oussou Konan, with defender Fouad Salama adding the third before the break as well. Police Union handed new coach Helmi Toulan as winning debut in the league, edging Cairo rivals Military Production 2-1. Salah Ashour's opener was canceled out by Medhat Ramadan as Mohamed Al-Fayoumi won the game for Police in the 66th minute. Another game between two Cairo sides saw Gaish come back from behind to beat Arab Contractors 2-1. Farouk Gaafar's side replied to Ali Fathi's opener with goals from Amer Sabri and Ernest Papa Arko before the break. The match start was delayed for around 10 minutes as referee Hamdi Shaaban withdrew from taking over after refusing to have an advertisement on his shirt. It is believed that Shaaban's stance came in protest over unpaid wages.
