Ghanem to quit Zamalek after criticism
Published in FilGoal on 23 - 03 - 2011

Zamalek full-back Ahmed Ghanem wants to be transfer listed after being heavily criticized by the fans in the wake of the recent defeat at Club Africain.
The 24-year-old, along with fellow center-half Amr Al-Safti, shouldered most of the blame for the 4-2 Champions League loss, thanks to some poor defending in Tunis.
“Al-Safti and I want to leave the club at the end of the season. We can't stand this anymore,” Ghanem told FilGoal.com.
“I don't know why all this attack on just the two of us. Football is a team game, we're not playing Tennis!
“The whole team is responsible for the Africain defeat, not just me and Amr.
“I am used to being criticized, but I don't want to continue with Zamalek as long as I and Amr only shoulder the blame after any defeat.”
Ghanem and Al-Safti penned new Zamalek deals late in 2010 and will both run out of contracts in 2013.
Best right-back
Ghanem believes Zamalek play better with him in the starting eleven as he seems confident of leaving the club on a high note.
“I was out injured for seven matches last year and the team conceded 12 goals. When I returned we went six games without conceding,” he added.
“During the second half of last season, I think I was the best right-back in the league, but after the 3-3 draw with Ahli, the Zamalek fans made me the worst player in Egypt!
“I am leaving by the end of the season, but I will leave Zamalek while they are champions.”
Ghanem was lambasted after committing a last-gasp error that led to Mohamed Barakat's dramatic equalizer in last year's derby thriller, which dented Zamalek's title chances.
