Hosts Qatar were ousted from the AFC Asian Cup upon losing 3-2 to ten-man Japan in the quarter-finals on Friday. The Samurai Blue played for around half an hour with a man down after Maya Yoshida was sent off for two bookable offences. Sebastian Soria put Qatar ahead on 12 minutes after he penetrated the area from his right-hand side, to elude a challenger and sent a low effort that squirmed beneath the keeper's body and into the net. Shinji Kagawa brought the score level three minutes of the half-hour mark after combining well with Keisuke Honda. Fabio Cesar Montezine gave back the Gulf side their one-goal advantage when his curling free kick swerved directly into the net from an acute angle in the 63rd minute. But Kagawa once again canceled out Qatar's slender lead on 70 minutes when he capitalized on a defensive lapse to go one-on-one with the keeper and slot home with aplomb.
