Ahli striker Mohamed Fadl has been called up for Egypt's 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger on October 10th. The former Ismaili man hasn't been included in the Pharaohs' squad for quite a while. The unexpected inclusion came following the injury of Geddo, who is still struggling with the knee problem he sustained in Ahli's 4-2 Champions League defeat at Ismaili last month. As such, Geddo, who made his name during the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, was left out. Fadl scored the opener in Ahli's 2-1 win over Esperance in the Champions League semi-finals on Sunday. He inadvertently handled the ball into the net after a free kick from Ahmed Fathi. Five more Ahli players were named in Egypt's squad in Wael Gomaa, Sherif Abdul-Fadil, Hossam Ghaly, Mohamed Abou-Treika and Fathi. Egypt coach Hassan Shehata had earlier picked 18 players for the Niger trip before adding six Ahli players to the list.
