Lierse suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat by Standard Liege on Friday in their first home game after sealing promotion to the Belgian first division. The visitors needed 17 minutes to open the scoring through a penalty from midfielder Axel Witsel. Striker Jurgen Cavens brought Lierse level in the 30th minute but Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez restored Standard's advantage seven minutes later. The 21-year-old midfielder scored his second of the night on 70 minutes to widen the gap and Sebastien Pocognoli completed the rout three minutes from time. Lierse's Egyptian winger Mohamed Abdul-Wahed was introduced as a second-half substitute after recovering from an injury. His compatriot Dodo Al-Gabbas played the full 90 minutes and wasted a goalscoring opportunity in the 32nd minute. There was no room for fellow Egyptian Ahmed Samir, who also missed Lierse's league opener. The Egyptian-owned club kicked off their league campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Sint-Truiden last week.
