FIFA has decided not to open disciplinary proceedings regarding the incidents that followed Egypt's World Cup play-off game against Algeria last year, the world governing body said on Tuesday. Egypt said dozens of their fans were assaulted by Algerian supporters in Sudanese city Omdurman in November last year after the Desert Foxes won 1-0 to book a place in the 11 June-11 July World Cup in South Africa. The Egyptian FA lodged a complaint with FIFA but their attempt to have Algeria punished was not successful. "With regard to the play-off match between Algeria and Egypt, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee determined that the conditions for opening disciplinary proceedings had not been met and therefore decided to close this matter," FIFA said in a statement. The alleged Algerian attacks in Sudan caused waves of anger in Egypt and strained diplomatic relationships between both countries. Egypt recalled its ambassador from Algiers in the wake of the reported incidents and media from both countries hurled accusations at each other for 'stirring up hatred between two Arab nations'. There have been recent reconciliation efforts which proved unsuccessful at the end, with Egyptian FA chairman Samir Zaher saying he would no longer pursue such attempts. Algeria, who reached the World Cup for the first time since 1986, will play in Group C along with England, the United States and Slovenia. Many Egyptians said they would not support Algeria at the anticipated tournament but others have created groups on social networking website Facebook to call fellow countrymen to cheer Rabah Saadane's team. Algeria, who suffered a 4-0 loss to Egypt in the African Cup of Nations semi final in January, begin their campaign against Slovenia on June 13.
