A Wayne Rooney double gave Manchester United a 3-0 victory over Mido's West Ham in the Premier League on Tuesday. In-form striker Rooney opened the scoring seven minutes before the break when he met a cross from Antonio Valencia to head home. The Ecuadorian winger fed him again to double United's advantage with another header in the 55th minute. Rooney, who also scored two headers to give United a 3-2 away victory over Manchester United in the Champions League last week, took his tally to 27 goals this season. Substitute Michael Owen, who came on instead of Dimitar Berbatov, wrapped up the Red Devils' win ten minutes from time. Mido started on the bench before being introduced in the second half, replacing Mexican striker Guillermo Franco. The Egyptian striker, who was celebrating his 27th birthday, could not make a notable impact, with West Ham struggling to create clear-cut opportunities. Mido is yet to open his West Ham account after joining in January on loan until the end of the season. United moved to within one point of league leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand. West Ham, who approached their game against United on the back of two wins, lie 13th in the 20-team table on 27 points, four above the relegation zone.
