Egypt recalled its ambassador from Algeria for 'consultations' after violence against the country's citizens in Sudan following Wednesday's World Cup playoff. Algeria defeated Egypt 1-0 to book the last African place at next year's World Cup finals in South Africa and spark wild reactions from Algerian fans in Sudan capital Khartoum. They attacked opposing supporters with knives, swords and blades to prompt a flurry of furious condemnations in Egypt. Nile News, a state-owned channel, said the Egyptian ambassador to Algeria has been recalled for consultations. Hours earlier, Algeria's ambassador in Cairo was summoned to the Egyptian foreign ministry. Egyptian businesses in Algiers were also attacked after the Pharaohs defeated their North African rivals 2-0 on Saturday to force a playoff four days later. Before that match, three Algerian players were reportedly struck in face by stones thrown from Egyptian supporters.
