Egypt have contained a possible problem with Algeria after some fans threw stones at the visiting team's bus ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifier, the foreign ministry said on Friday. Algeria sports minister Hachemi Djiar said on Thursday that some Egyptian supporters, who gathered at Cairo airport, injured members of the visiting delegation upon their arrival in the capital. Rafik Saifi, Rafik Halliche and Khaled Lemmouchia were reportedly struck on the head by stones thrown at Algeria's bus. "Algeria demanded our ambassador there to make sure their delegation in Cairo is safe," Hossam Zaki, the Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman, told Nile Sports. "They were about to escalate the matter but we contained it." World governing body FIFA have earlier asked the Egyptian FA to 'to provide written guarantees that confirm the implementation of the necessary additional safety and security measures at any time for the Algerian delegation'. Egypt need to beat Algeria by a three-goal margin to reach next year's World Cup finals in South Africa for the first time since 1990. A victory by a three-goal margin will set up a playoff meeting with the Desert Foxes in Sudan on Wednesday.
