Roma boss Claudio Ranieri believes that Francesco Totti's awaited return on the international stage is possible. The Italian hitman retired from international football at the age of 30 in July 2007, and cited his deteriorated fitness as a reason for his decision. But with Italy in dire need of a competent marksman ahead of the 2010 World Cup, Totti is understood to be contemplating an international return to give the Azzurri more firepower. Although the Roma star is now 33 years old, Ranieri is convinced that he can regain his place in Marcello Lippi's team. "I think that Totti's road back to La Nazionale is workable," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Francesco had renounced the blue shirt because of his physical problems. But now it seems to me that he has the desire to return. "If he takes a step back, offers his availability and, contemporaneously, Lippi also takes a step back and is willing to accept him, then the door can open again."
