UEFA president Michel Platini has warned Real Madrid that their summer spending spree might not be enough to bring them success. The Spanish giants spent around €250 million in the close season to bolster their squad with some high-profile signings. They landed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema to wrestle the Primera Liga title back from arch-rivals Barcelona and compete for the Champions League accolade. "(Real chairman) Florentino Perez wants to win everything and that's why he has signed so many stars," Platini told Spanish daily Marca on Saturday. "But we will see what happens in May, when the final of the Champions League is played in Madrid. "The history of football tells us that the great players do not always win the tournaments." Perez oversaw similar spending spree when he was in charge of Real from 2000 to 2006 but the club did not win many major trophies. They won the Primera Liga twice and the Champions League once in six years.
