Harras Hodoud failed to secure a second successive group-stage win in the Confederation Cup after a controversial penalty gave Primeiro de Agosto a 1-0 home win on Saturday. The Angolans were awarded the spot-kick in the first-half's additional time when Hodoud right-back Islam Al-Shater allegedly brought down an opponent. Television replays showed there was no contact between both players. Sebastiao Cabungula stepped up to fire the ball into the roof of the net as the hosts bagged all three points. Hodoud, who opened their group stage campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Nigeria's Bayelsa United, are second in Group A on three points. Primeiro de Agosto lie a the top with four points. Stade Malien, who face Bayelsa later in the day, are third on one point.
Striker Ahmed Abdul-Ghani wasted two opportunities to put Hodoud ahead in the first half. Primeiro de Agosto keeper parried the Egyptian international's close-range effort after eight minutes. Abdul-Ghani was also unlucky to see his curling free-kick strike the post four minutes before the break. Hodoud laid siege to the Angolan side's area in the second half but barely created goalscoring opportunities. Their only real chance fell to Mohamed Mekki six minutes past the hour mark when the keeper tipped his delicate chip over the bar.
