Zamalek coach Ahmed Refaat sounded his discontent with the reactions of the mass media towards the team's current deteriorated condition and recurrent losses. The White Knights were condemned to a 2-0 away defeat by Asyut Petroleum on Friday in the Egyptian League, and now they are languishing in the seventh place with 18 points, just three above the relegation zone. "The club are heavily vilified in the meantime, but the fact remains that our problems are not going to be solved overnight," the tactician told the Cairo Giants' official website. "I took over a team that has been suffering a multitude of shortcomings and setbacks over the last four years. "The coaching staff need some time to get the outfit back on track."
Will Zamalek be able to pull themselves together? Crisis-hit Zamalek couldn't register a single win in the last six games, during which they scored only one goal. The last defeat is the second for the unsettled side under the management of Refaat, who was appointed as the head coach after the sacking of German tactician Reiner Hollmann. However, the newly-appointed boss said Zamalek's recent losses have been greatly exaggerated by the media. "There is no need to make a big deal out of a host of bad results," he said. "Our plan is to form a new team of youngsters, and increase the moral awareness amongst the players."
