Zamalek have signed Egypt's U-20 team striker Islam Magdi, the club's football director Ahmed Refaat announced on Thursday. "Magdi is a very good player who will be a valuable addition to our frontline," Refaat told Zamalek's official website on Thursday. "The player has penned a four-year contract with Zamalek. He will join the team's training as soon as possible." The 19-year-old came through Ismaili's youth ranks before joining UAE second-division side Ras Al-Khaima in the summer of 2007. He underwent a trial at Austrian side SK Sturm Graz but he eventually remained at Al-Khaima. Zamalek coach Reiner Hollmann has recently identified a new striker as one of his primary targets for the January transfer window. The Cairo giants suffered from lack of reliable strikers, with Junior Agogo often finding himself isolated upfront. Back-ups Mostafa Gaafar, Abdul-Halim Ali and Sherif Ashraf failed to impress. The displays of Gamal Hamza, a talented forward, were inconsistent and he was subsequently punished. Zamalek scored 15 league goals so far this season, eight of which came from defenders.
