Middlesbrough coach Gareth Southgate laid the blame with his side's poor finishing after they slumped to a 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion in the Premiership. Although Boro piled on pressure after falling behind to Jonas Olsson's first-half goal, they failed to apply the finishing touch that would have given them the equalizer. Egyptian striker Mido partnered Brazilian Afonso Alves upfront but neither was able to convert his opportunities. “It's a lesson we've got to take on board very quickly,” Southgate was quoted as saying by Sky Sports after the match. “Up to the penalty box we've done an awful lot right with the ball, and going forward we've had enough chances to win two games.” It was the third successive defeat for Middlesbrough, who collected just six points from six games. “I'm a bit more than fed up but you just have to roll your sleeves up and go again. It was one of those days,” Southgate added.
