Middlesbrough chief executive Keith Lamb underlined the importance of holding onto Mido, who was linked with a move away from the Riverside in the close season. "We're building a squad and Mido is an essential part of that squad," Lamb told BBC. According to the Egyptian striker, Wigan Athletic were interested in acquiring his services in the summer transfer window. But Mido eventually decided to stay at Boro after being given assurances by coach Gareth Southgate that he will have more regular football. "We've been through a season of injuries and how he's fit and raring to go and he's promised me and Gareth he appreciates what we've done for him and I'm looking forward to seeing that," Lamb added. Mido scored two goals in three Premiership appearances this season, despite being introduced as a substitute in those occasions. The 25-year-old also netted in Middlesbrough's 5-1 drubbing of third division side Yeovil Town in the Carling Cup second round.
