Sudan suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Chad in the second group stage of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. The Sudanese, who thrashed African champions Egypt 4-0 in a friendly last month, now have no hopes of reaching the World Cup as they also missed out on the 2010 African Cup of Nations. The game was played in Cairo upon FIFA's orders, due to the ongoing Darfur crisis in Sudan. The Indomitable Lions have 13 points in Group One, four ahead of Cape Verde, who could still go through as one of eight best runners-up. In Group Nine, Tunisia denied Burkina Faso booking a place in the final round after claiming a goalless draw in Ouagadougou. The Tunisians, who were beaten at home by Burkina Faso in June, have a good chance of making the final phase with their group rivals as they are currently best runners-up with 10 points.
