Just few hours before its closure on Monday, the European summer transfer window has witnessed one of its busiest days as clubs tried to seize bargains and enhance their squads with top quality players. Liverpool completed the signing of winger Albert Riera from Espanyol for an undisclosed fee. Manager Rafael Benitez announced that the club successfully shrugged off competition from city rivals Everton to land the Spanish international expressing his delight with such acquisition. "Riera had offers from other English clubs but he said no to them because he wanted to come and play for us. That means a lot to me because it shows the commitment he has to play for Liverpool," Benitez told Liverpool's official website. "He's the kind of player we have been talking about. He can beat players and get good deliveries into the area for our strikers." However and after losing out on Riera, Everton managed to sign the striker they've been looking for all summer in the shape of Manchester United's Louis Saha. The Frenchman will be wearing the number 9 shirt after earlier agreeing a two-year deal with the possibility of extending another year for the toffees. "Everton have completed the signing of Louis Saha," read a statement on the club's official website on Monday. Meanwhile Seria A side Genoa pulled off an impressive deal by signing Argentine striker Diego Milito from Real Zaragoza. The 29-year-old will be heading back to Genoa after playing for the club for two seasons before joining Zaragoza in 2005. "Genoa CFC have completed the signing of Argentine striker Diego Milito from Real Zaragoza and the player's international certificate is expected to be sent from the Spanish club within the next few days," said a statement on Genoa's official website on Monday. Meanwhile big transfer moves lead by Robinho and Dimitar Berbatov are yet to be settled. Talks are still ongoing between Berbatov and both Manchester United and Manchester City as both clubs try to lure the Bulgarian while Robinho is yet to agree with a club after Real Madrid agreed to sell him.
