Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur from Spartak Moscow. "I would prefer it if the deal was described as very close," Spartak spokesman Eduard Nisenboim told Russian media. "At the moment the papers have not yet been signed - we have only reached a verbal agreement with the England club." Pavlyuchenko has been linked with Tottenham since June, following his impressive display for Russia in EURO 2008 finals. Late on Tuesday, the 26-year-old revealed that his move to White Hart Lane is only subject to granting a UK visa. "I can confirm I'm joining Tottenham. Right now I'm getting my visa and as soon as it is ready I will fly to England to sign a contract," he said. Pavlyuchenko currently leads the scoring charts of the Russian league with nine goals, he was also top scorer for his country in Austria and Switzerland, where he scored three times. Berbatov Sale Should the transfer of Pavlyuchenko be completed, Spurs are likely to acknowledge Dimitar Berbatov's requested move to Manchester United. Berbatov has been pleading to seal a move to Old Trafford in late, which forced Spurs boss Juande Ramos to exclude him from his plans for 'lack of focus'. The Bulgarian hitman was linked with United for some time, but Spurs were reluctant to let him go, following the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool. Keane and Berbatov contributed to more than 50% of Spurs goals over the past couple of seasons.
