Around 500 people have gathered in front of Zamalek club's headquarters on Friday morning, calling for chairman Mamdouh Abbas to stay in his job. They entered the club afterwards and voiced their desire to have Abbas as Zamalek's chairman for the foreseeable future. The supporters also chanted angry slogans against controversial lawyer Mortada Mansour, whose persistent efforts led to the election being postponed. Many of Zamalek fans support wealthy businessman Abbas, who paid large sums of money for the team's new acquisitions in the close season. But the club's entire board won't be able to carry on its duties after the Egyptian Higher Council for Sport (HCS) decided to assign the club's responsibilities to a four-member committee. The committee will run Zamalek for three months until a new board election takes place. Abbas is expected to battle it out with Mansour for the club's presidential seat.
