Telecom Egypt coach Tarek Yehia was over the moon after his side retained their top-flight status despite a 3-0 defeat to Tersana on Thursday. "Staying in the premier division is a historic achievement," Yehia told Modern Sport after the match. Telecom Egypt were close to returning to the second division, just one season after sealing promotion to the top tier. However, a late revival ensured the team would carry on in the elite competition for at least one more season. Yehia, who repeatedly complained of biased refereeing over the past few weeks, heaped praise on his players. "We played three difficult matches in the space of three days. The players exerted lots of efforts to defeat Zamalek and Arab Contractors." "However, it was very hard for them to replicate that sort of performance against Tersana today. "The best thing that we had our destiny in our own hands, we didn't have to wait for other teams' results," Yehia added. Telecom Egypt finished 13th in the league table with 31 points, just one ahead of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Yehia said he wished to continue with the club next season. He revealed that his future will be clarified next week.
