Barcelona have suffered another title challenge blow when they lost 2-1 to Villarreal at Nou Camp on Sunday. Marcos Senna opened the scoring for the visitors with a 31st minute penalty, but the in-form Xavi equalized for Barca on 67 minutes. Villarreal grabbed the winner despite being a man down, following a sending off to Diego Godin a few minutes after Xavi's goal. The winning goal came from Denmark striker Jon-Dahl Tomasson nine minutes from time. Barca, who have 54 points, are now eight points adrift of leaders Real Madrid, while third-placed Villarreal closed the gap with the Catalans to four points. Elsewhere, Sevilla survived an early goal against Getafe to win 2-1 at home, while Valencia and Deportivo drew 2-2 at Mestalla.
